Maybe you just get your router changed, or you are using a brand new smart phone, or you want to enable your motion email alert setting, or other technical issues, don’t worry, we are always here to help you out!

How to Enable the Motion Detection (and with Email Alert Function) for CCTV

Keywords: CCTV, Security camera, motion detection, email alert

With our Safetrolley CCTV system, you can set the recording mode to “motion detection”, which means the CCTV security camera system will only record upon motion detected. With such function enabled, it can help to save the hard disk space the CCTV system consumes, and it will also make your life easier: because you won’t need to watch the no-motion video for a long time when you are replaying the video footage.

In addition, you can also enable the Email Alert function, which means whenever the motion is detected, the CCTV system will send you the email (with screenshots as attachment), to notify you that there is a motion detected at that time. Perhaps you should pay attention to your home/office at that time.

The below are the steps on how to enable the Motion Detection (and with Email Alert Function) for our SafeTrolley CCTV system:

1. Use the computer browser to login to the CCTV system. You should have been given the unique domain name, user ID and password to do so. Afer you login, go to “configuration” -> “Schedule Settings” -> “Edit”

2. At the “record type”, change it to “motion detection”. At the bottom of the page, choose the days you want to enable the function. Click “Copy” after you have selected the day. Remember to click “Ok” after that.

3. After you have clicked “OK” in the previous step, the color of the schedule should have changed to GREEN, which means “motion detection” schedule.

4. Go to “Motion Detection”. Make sure you tick the “Enable Motion Detection”. Click “Start Drawing” to select the area you want to detect motion. We advise you set the sensitivity to lower range, because you may not want to receive too many motion detection alert (via email). Remember to click “Save” after you have finished the settings.

Please click to view the image below for more details.

5. Choose the “Linkage Method”, and select “send email”. Click the picture to follow the selections. Regarding “trigger channel”, if your camera is the 1st one, choose “D1″; if your camera is the 2nd one, choose “D2″, so on and so forth.

6. Set the email alert settings. Refer to the below image for details. Gmail is advised, but please make sure you will register a new email box for the email alert function. This is quite important because it is possible that if the motion alert emails are sent too frequently, Gmail may ban the email account since it considers the email box is used to send spam emails. (unfortunately there is no way to overcome this issue since no service provider wants the user to flood other peoples mail box). So the best thing you can do is a) enable the motion detection only when you need to; b) make sure the sensitivity is set to low level; c) set the time interval as long as possible; d) restrict the motion detection areas to those you really need

7. All set! Please go in front of your camera and make sure everything is working well! If you still face issues after you carefully follow all the instructions, please user our remote support for assistance.

Security cameras will be rolled out in areas with crime concerns first

Keywords: Security Camera

THE roll-out of surveillance cameras in local neighbourhoods around Singapore will start in areas where there are greater crime and security concerns, said Mr S. Iswaran in Parliament on Tuesday.

The Second Minister for Home Affairs, replying to a suggestion to set up cameras at loanshark hotspots, affirmed that the police would prioritise the installation of the camera network based on needs.

A consideration would be whether or not the area had security and crime concerns, such as loanshark harassment.

The number of people arrested for loanshark harassment and lending rose by 22 per cent to 1,033 in the first six months of this year, compared to the same period last year.

The police have also been posting on Facebook pictures of those caught on camera for loanshark harassment, to appeal for help in nabbing them.

Starting in April this year, the first of the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras had been installed in Bishan, Bukit Merah, Clementi, Punggol, Sengkang, Tampines and Woodlands.

These cameras were placed at all key entry and exit points of some 300 HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks in these neighbourhoods.

Islandwide installation of the cameras is expected to be completed in 2016.

We have run out of the HDD stocks as well. Therefore, we regret to inform you that since now on, there will be a HDD price premium for the HDD. It usually ranges from $150 – $200.

We will closely monitor the situation. Once the HDD price comes back to normal, we will remove the extra cost for you.

The Straits Times Singapore November 23, 2011 Wednesday DIGITAL LIFE;

Thai floods cause hard disk prices to almost triple (Oo Gin Lee)

Thailand’s floods may be receding, but in their wake comes a huge surge in the prices of hard disk drives. The country produced 40 to 45 per cent of the world’s hard disk drives in the first half of this year and market research firm IDC estimates nearly half of this production capacity has been directly affected by the flooding. The result: Prices of hard disks in Singapore have almost tripled over the last four weeks.

Sim Lim Square retailers told Digital Life that the prices of all brands have shot through the roof. Before the floods, 1TB Hitachi drives sold for $65 each. The current price is $170. Prices of similar Seagate and Western Digital drives spiked from $80 to $180.

Mr Chen Wen Xie, manager of Fuwell at Sim Lim Square, said prices of hard disks had risen every week in tandem with the rising floods. “It was 10 per cent in the first week, then 30 per cent in the second, and now it has just exploded,” he said.

He and his fellow retailers have been hit hard by the impact of the floods and they expect sales to slow down in the run-up to Sitex 2011.

This year’s Sitex, one of four major annual consumer tech fairs here, opens tomorrow.

“We usually see a slowdown in sales of about 20 per cent just before a tech fair, but with the hard disk prices up, we are seeing a drop in sales of almost 40 per cent of DIY PCs,” he added.

As would-be buyers are taking a wait-and-see stance, there is still enough stock even though there is a supply crunch, said Mr Michael Tan of Convergent Systems, which distributes Hitachi hard disks here.

However, laptop vendors cannot wait. An executive from one of the top PC brands here told Digital Life that some have told distributors and retailers to brace themselves for price increases in the coming months.

The executive said the laptop deals at Sitex will also be affected, but not very significantly.

“It would be difficult to get the usual crazy price cuts at this show and consumers should also expect fewer freebies than before,” he said.

Hard disk prices may still soar for several months. IDC predicts that the shortages will continue well into the first quarter of next year.

Mr Bryan Ma, IDC Asia-Pacific’s associate vice-president of client devices research, said: “Larger PC vendors which can get their hands on hard disk supplies could have an opportunity to gain more market share in the process.”
